Shorter University Online Admissions

Founded in 1873, Shorter University is a Christ-centered, four-year liberal arts university committed to excellence in education. U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review annually include Shorter on their lists of best Southeastern Colleges. The university offers traditional bachelor’s degrees in 40 areas of study, online courses and degree programs, undergraduate programs for working adults, associate’s, and master’s programs.

Associate and Bachelor Degree Programs

To enroll in one of Shorter University’s online bachelor’s or associate degree programs, students must meet the following admissions requirements:

Students with less than 24 college transferable hours

  • A high school transcript
  • A high school GPA average of 2.25 or better on a 4.0 scale

If the student has been out of high school for over five years, a high school transcript is required but no ACT or SAT score.

Students with 24 or more transferable credit hours

  • A college GPA, based on grades from transferable courses, of a 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution
  • Submit transcripts from each institution previously attended
  • The student must also:
    • Complete the online application
    • Transient Students: Students who are currently enrolled in another higher education institution and wish to take online General Education courses are considered to be transient students. Transient students are limited to taking a total of 24 college credit hours at Shorter University. Transient students wishing to enroll in a Summer General Education course must submit:

      • A completed Shorter University application with a $25 application fee
      • A Statement for Good Standing from the registrar or other appropriate academic official at their current higher education institution.

    Graduate Degree Programs

    Master of Accountancy

    To enroll in our online Master of Accountancy program, students must have:

    • An undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75 (on a 4.00 grading system). Applicants will
      be considered eligible for admission if their undergraduate GPA in the final 60 hours of their
      enrollment is a 2.50 or greater on a 4.00 scale.
    • Evidence of completion of a U.S. baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution or
      its equivalent. The applicant is responsible for providing official transcripts from each institution
      attended
    • Students will be required to complete any necessary prerequisite courses before entry into the
      program or show proficiency through satisfactory completion of undergraduate courses.
    • Final acceptance into the program will be at the discretion of the Graduate Admissions Committee
      and its assessment of the candidate’s potential to complete the program.

    The applicant must also:

    • Complete the online application
    • Submit all forms and official transcripts from EACH institution previously attended even if no credit was earned or grades received. We will accept unofficial transcripts in order to obtain an evaluation of transferable credits.
    • Submit a Personal Statement of Objectives that describes how the completion of the MAcc degree will affect the applicant’s professional performance and career goals.
    • Submit a Resume
    • Two Professional Recommendation Letters from employers, instructors, or others in a position to
      evaluate the applicant’s ability to handle graduate work (not to include family members).
    • Students for who English is a second language will submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language
      (TOEFL).
    • The applicant may include any additional supporting documents that would help the admissions committee in determining the potential success of the applicant.

    Master of Business Administration

    To be eligible for admission to the MBA program, students must meet the following admission requirements:

    • An undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75 (on a 4.00 grading system). Applicants will
      be considered eligible for admission if their undergraduate GPA in the final 60 hours of their
      enrollment is a 2.50 or greater on a 4.00 scale.

    • GACE Assessment in certification field. If the student’s undergraduate degree is similar to the
      certification field selected, then you do not have to pass GACE upon admission. This also applies if
      you have adequate undergraduate credit hours in a chosen subject. If you do not have the
      undergraduate degree or credit hours, you will have to pass your content area GACE for admission.
      All students must pass the GACE in their content area before student teaching begins
    • The applicant may include any additional supporting documents that would help the admissions
      committee in determining the potential success of the applicant.
    • After a student is accepted to Shorter University by the graduate council, an application must be
      submitted to the Master of Art in Teaching degree program.
    • Deadlines for cohort program are:
      • Fall semester – September 15th
      • Spring semester – December 5th
      • Summer semester – April 13th
      • If the date falls on a weekend, the deadline will be the next business day.
