Business Organizations - Shorter University

Sigma Beta Delta

General Info

Sigma Beta Delta is the international honor society for students majoring in business, management and administration. The purpose of the society is to recognize scholarship and achievement among students to promote personal and professional growth. The principles of Sigma Beta Delta are represented by the three Greek words which form the name of the society. These principles are wisdom, honor, and meaningful aspirations.

How to Get Involved

Membership in the Sigma Beta Delta is the highest international honor a college or university can bestow on a student. To be eligible a student must rank in the upper 20 percent of the junior, senior, or master’s class as well as be invited by the faculty officers.

Members receive lifetime recognition for achievement in academics and business. Sigma Beta Delta offers yearly fellowship awards to members who are continuing their academics in business. The Society’s newsletter, Aspirations, provides students and alumni with updates of the Society’s growth and development along with current business topics. Members will receive a member pin, a certificate, and honor cords to be worn with academic gowns at graduation.

Enactus offers many opportunities to become involved not just in the community but in terms of job fairs, competitions, and national events. Students “gain a practical understanding of the free enterprise system of today.” Skills that can be developed include leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

In addition to personal growth, many companies have entry-level positions that are specifically available to SIFE graduates. SIFE provides a large network for SIFE alumni to remain actively involved in the community even after graduation.
