Weeklong Photography Sale to Support Department of English, Modern Languages, and Liberal Arts
Photography by Shorter University Assistant Professor of French and English Dr. Fabrice Poussin is on sale through Friday, March 24, in Shorter’s Fitton Student Union. The fundraiser will benefit the Department of English, Modern Languages and Liberal Arts and will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The public is invited.
The sale includes Dr. Poussin’s latest work, which consists of photos of both found and frozen objects. The found objects, he said, are random items he discovers that he can utilize in an artistic way. He then freezes some of these objects in order to create a unique picture with distinctive textures and colors.
Many of the frozen object photos feature frozen flowers in a variety of settings, Dr. Poussin added. This helps to convey a clear contrast between the bright hues of the flowers and the ice.
Other photographs for sale include pictures taken locally in Rome and in other places in the United States, as well as pictures taken in France, England, and even North Africa. Dr. Poussin’s photographs have already been published in more than 200 different magazines, including both print and online publications.
He is currently putting together a book that will feature his own photographs and poetry written by Shorter University students. He said he believes photography and poetry go hand-in-hand. “Finding the right frame and exposure for a photo is just like finding the right word for a poem,” he said.
The book will be about God’s creation, he said, adding that he hopes it will “inspire Christian writers to write about God’s presence in everything.” He is optimistic that this book will be completed by next year.
Dr. Poussin is excited to see the impact that this book will have on others, including Shorter students. “I want people to see a bunch of people from Shorter University praising God. It doesn’t get much better than that,” he said.
This week’s photography fundraiser will feature hundreds of Dr. Poussin’s photographs and will raise funds for the English Club and the Chimes.
