My Shorter Story: Jack Dodge - Shorter University

“My gratitude for the Shorter Student Scholarship Fund is massive. Without the gracious gifts and support supplied by donors, I would not be able to attend Shorter University.” — Jack Dodge, Class of 2018

Jack Dodge has a heart for serving Christ as he serves others. The Shorter University senior has seen that gift nurtured as he has studied in Shorter’s environment dedicated to Transforming Lives through Christ.

“Being a student at Shorter means a lot to me. During my time here, I’ve learned I should give God the glory in all I do. It’s all about Him; it’s not about me. My experience on the Hill has equipped me with the knowledge and strength I need to carry out what God has waiting on me.”

Invest in students like Jack by supporting the 3rd Annual Little Black Dress Tea. Hosted by First Lady Mrs. Teresa Dowless, the event benefits the Student Scholarship Fund and will be held Saturday, February 23, in the Price Learning Center.

He added, “There are so many people on this campus that have drastically impacted me. Their leadership, influence, charisma, and discipleship have made me realize many truths of life. I will never forget the impact they have all made on my life. There’s something to be said about a faculty and staff that invests in and truly cares about their students; you don’t find that in many places.”

Through his experiences at Shorter University, Jack has taken part in missions trips to the Iditarod Race in Alaska and to the Horn of Africa. “These mission trips have shaped me to the core and have given me a new outlook on what God has in store for me,” Jack said.

The Cartersville, Georgia native will graduate from Shorter in December with a major in Youth Ministry and plans to pursue both a full-time career in student ministry/missions and a graduate degree at seminary. Already working part-time as the Student Ministry Associate at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville, he also serves as a resident advisor, a student ambassador for the Office of Admissions, and treasurer for Delta Sigma Phi. He was president of Shorter’s Baptist Collegiate Ministries during the 2017-2018 academic year.
