My Shorter Story: Jacee Guinn - Shorter University

“I am so thankful for the Student Scholarship Fund. Had it not been for the incredible scholarship I received, I would not be at Shorter today. My scholarship truly is a testament to the abounding providence of God and how He loves us greatly.” — Jacee Guinn, Class of 2019

Coming from the small town of Fyffe, Alabama, Jacee Guinn was convinced a big school wasn’t the right fit for her college experience.

“I knew I could thrive in a small school environment,” she said. “I also desired to be somewhere I could surround myself with people who love the Lord so I could grow spiritually. As soon as I stepped foot on Shorter’s campus, I knew it would meet those criteria. Without hesitation, I decided Shorter was the place I needed to be.”

Jacee saw God’s hand at work throughout the application process as she met one open door after another.  For her, the crucial factor would be the right financial aid package.

“I am so thankful for the Student Scholarship Fund,” Jacee added. “While we are so blessed, my family would have definitely not been able to send me to college without some sort of aid. So, when I began thinking about attending Shorter, I knew that the only way I would be able to afford it would be by way of a scholarship. Thankfully, I am the recipient of a wonderful scholarship that covers all of my tuition.”

Help ensure students like Jacee can attend Shorter by attending the 3rd Annual Little Black Dress Tea on Saturday, February 23. Hosted by First Lady Mrs. Teresa Dowless, the Tea benefits our Student Scholarship Fund.

Now a junior at Shorter, Jacee is majoring in English and plays flute with the Marching Hawks. She is a student worker in the Admissions Office and serves as Alumni Relations Representative for Shorter’s Baptist Collegiate Ministries. After graduation, she plans to earn a master’s degree in Education and teach high school English.

“Since I’ve been at Shorter, I have made some of my greatest friends and have been involved in so many wonderful activities. I’ve also been fortunate to have professors who have helped me discover where my true passion lies. …I took Advanced English Composition my freshman year with Dr. O’Neal. It wasn’t until that class that I realized just how much I love creative writing. Dr. O’Neal has been so helpful to me as I study the beauty and intricacies of the English language and all it has to offer.”
