Jeffrey Price, tenor, and Matthew Manwarren, piano, will present a guest recital at Shorter University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23. The event will be held in Brookes Chapel and is open to the public at no charge.

The program, titled “Songs of Youthful Romance” will feature Dichterliebe, Op. 48 by Robert Schumann and La Bonne Chanson, Op. 61 by Gabriel Faure. The pair will also present masterclasses in piano and voice on Friday, March 24, for Shorter University students.

Price has performed as a guest soloist with concert organizations including the Charlotte, Greensboro, West Virginia, Huntington, Canton, and Williamsport Symphony Orchestras. He has twice toured China presenting song recitals, lectures, and masterclasses. His recording of the songs of Vittorio Giannini, called Hopelessly Romantic, received positive national reviews and distribution.

He has served on the faculties of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Marshall University, Appalachian State University, and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He is a recipient of the Bank of America Teaching Award (2010) and the North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching (2011). He is a former vice president for national workshops of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He currently serves as Chancel Choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Concord, N.C.

Manwarren serves as professor of music at Winthrop University, where he is coordinator of keyboard studies, professor of piano, and instructor of organ. During the summers, he serves on the faculty of the Adamant Music School in Vermont, a prestigious summer program for advanced pianists from all over the world. His recent recording, Youthful Passion and Fantasy, was released on the Americus Label. He is an active performer as a soloist and collaborative pianist.

He has held positions at Erskine College, where he chaired the Department of Music and was named the Harriet Pressly Smith Caldwell Professor of Music, and at Belmont University. In 2006, he was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship through the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars, where he had the opportunity to serve as artist-in-residence at the University of Cape Town South African College of Music. He has served two terms as president of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association. He currently serves as organist at Myers Park Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C.
