Dr. Melissa Kirby is the Department Chair of the Business Administration Department and Assistant Professor of Accounting of the Ledbetter College of Business at Shorter University. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Kennesaw State University, a Master of Accountancy from Shorter University, and a Doctorate of Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting from Liberty University.
Dr. Kirby’s previous academic career includes serving as the Assistant Dean and Instructor of Accounting and Business Administration at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Instructor of Accounting and Business Administration for the Global Online College at Georgia Military College, and Adjunct Instructor at Northwest Missouri State University. Before entering the academic field, she worked as a Senior Auditor for the Georgia Department of Audits in the Education Division and at Georgia Highlands College as an Assistant Director of Accounting.
Dr. Kirby serves as Secretary for the George Chambers Resource Center in Calhoun, a facility that provides day programs to help adults with intellectual disabilities to become more independent. She also serves on the Board of Directors for The Voluntary Action Center and United Way of Gordon County.
Dr. Kirby is married to her husband, Jamey, and has two daughters, Paris and Kinzley, and a golden doodle named Georgia. Dr. Kirby is an avid sports fan and spends all of her free time at fields around the country, watching her two daughters playing travel softball.
