Dr. John D. Reams serves as Dean of the School of Fine & Performing Arts at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia. He is also an Associate Professor of Woodwinds teaching clarinet and saxophone. Prior to joining the faculty at Shorter University, Dr. Reams was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. As a clarinetist, he has held positions with the Savannah Philharmonic and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. Other orchestral positions include the Midland-Odessa Symphony (TX), Abilene Philharmonic, Peoria Symphony (IL), Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Ohio Light Opera Orchestra, and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Reams has been a featured soloist throughout the United States and Canada. Recent appearances include solo performances with the North Charleston Pops (soprano saxophone), Balkan String Quartet, and a recent performance of the Copland Concerto for Clarinet with the Rome Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded for labels including Centaur and Albany Records.
Dr. Reams holds degrees from the University of South Carolina, Florida State University, and the University of Illinois. He lives in Silver Creek, GA with his wife Lisa, and two children Abigail and Michael.
