Amy Meppen Neal is Assistant Professor of Music at Shorter University, where she teaches
Piano Pedagogy, Class Piano, and piano lessons in addition to other courses.
A Nationally Certified Teacher of Music by the Music Teachers National Association, Mrs.
Neal is also a Vice President of the Georgia Music Teachers Association. She and her
pedagogy students regularly present at the state conference, and Mrs. Neal is a frequent
adjudicator.
Mrs. Neal moved to Georgia from California, where she served as Assistant Director of the
Santa Monica Academy of Music and taught group piano classes at Cerritos College. Prior
to her time on the west coast, she taught class piano, pedagogy, and private piano lessons
at East Texas Baptist University.
Amy began her piano study at the age of six. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baylor
University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy. She earned her Master of
Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Oklahoma under the
noted pedagogue Dr. Jane Magrath.
Mrs. Neal has taught private piano lessons for more than twenty-five years in Texas,
California, and now Georgia. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association,
the American College of Musicians, and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
Mrs. Neal also remains an active accompanist, working with both students and faculty. In
addition to Shorter University, she has worked at East Texas Baptist University, Longview
Opera, Santa Monica Academy of Music, Valdosta State University, and several churches.
Amy Neal lives in Rome with her husband and two sons.
