The Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity
was founded on December 10, 1899 at the City College of New York by Meyer Boskey amidst much racial, religious, and ethnic prejudice. A small group of men decided to carry their friendship from high school into college with a fraternity, but many of these men were of diverse backgrounds. Thus, they were led to create their own organization as others would not allow different people join. The Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity was then founded on ideals of equality, open membership, and the pursuit of good character. Then, only two years later, another leader within the Fraternity emerged, Charles Tonsor, who, along with Meyer Boskey, are credited with being the co-founders and creators of our ritual.
100 years later, over 200 chapters and 124,000 people have been initiated into the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity across the nation. Currently, there are over 100 operating chapters, over 5,500 undergraduate members, and over 50,000 living alumni. All these men value loyalty, brotherhood, equality, self-control, and strive to become better men.

The Theta Psi Chapter
of Delta Sigma Phi at Shorter University was chartered on November 22, 2008, but its history starts fifteen years earlier. In 1993, the local Zeta Rho Fraternity was founded at Shorter College by Brooks McCommons. For the next 10 years, members grew in influence at Shorter supporting their chosen philanthropy, the American Red Cross, and exemplifying their motto “Unity Through Diversity”. Then, in the 2002-2003 academic school year, this group of men decided to take the next step and grow their fraternity by joining a membership that spans across the entire country. After interviewing with multiple organizations, Zeta Rho brothers felt led to become a colony of Delta Sigma Phi due to the similarity in their mottos and for sharing the same philanthropy. In five short years, this Delta Sigma Phi colony raised enough money and initiated enough members to officially become the Theta Psi Chapter.
10 years later, over 200 men have been initiated into the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity at the Theta Psi Chapter and numerous members have been recognized by the National Headquarters with awards, scholarships, and as leadership conference attendees. The Theta Psi Chapter has also been recognized as one of the top seven chapters in the nation four times in the past seven years.
MISSION
Our mission is to empower and encourage our members to become Better Men – men of courage, men of action, and men of excellence.
COURAGE
The Better Man is not afraid to be atypical, to challenge the status quo. He is a bold and daring leader, firm in his values, and steps up to solve the challenges of modern civilization through innovated solutions. Because he has integrity, character, and quality, a Better Man is respected, though at times he may be unpopular. Regardless, adversity offers no barriers in his path to success because he is a man of conviction and enlightenment.
ACTION
The Better Man does not wait for others to act. When he sees someone in need, an injustice taking place, or an opportunity to improve the world, he acts. He stands up and lends a hand. When others falter or fade or second guess, he generously serves and supports and is devoted to bringing others peace and goodwill. A Better Man is committed to improving the human condition with principle and sincerity and prudently acts with self-control in a timely and even-tempered manner.
EXCELLENCE
The Better Man strives for excellence and mastery in all areas of his life while knowing that it may not be possible. Thus, he is always willing to receive help and criticism. For that reason, he is recognized for his constant self-development and improvement.
