The Terry R. Morris Endowed Scholarship - Shorter University

Dr. Terry Morris teaching

“When I first went to Shorter, I heard that Dr. Morris was a tough professor. This proved to be correct. He challenged me to be a better student, but more than that, he challenged me to be a better person.” – Mr. Mack Parnell, Class of 2014

“As the only granddaughter of Dr. Morris, I have been one of his students for most of my life. For several years, we have considered him to be the Dumbledore of our family because of his kindness, brilliance, and endless capacity for knowledge. After having the privilege of being one of his students, I consider him to be the Dumbledore of Shorter as well!” – Ms. Hannah Fowler, Class of 2012

Is that Dumbledore or Gandalf? No, it’s Dr. Morris! The Terry R. Morris Endowed Scholarship honors the brilliant Dr. Terry Morris, a 1964 graduate of Shorter College who has served as a member of Shorter’s faculty for more than 50 years. Dr. Morris has impacted generations of Shorter students through the classroom and through the University’s Honors Program, which he pioneered. He has also served on the board of the Chieftain’s Museum and the Citizens Advisory Board for the local Records Commission. He was instrumental in producing a series of local programs in connection with the Great Plains Experience, a video on the history of Broad Street with the Tri-County Library, and video interviews with World War I veterans. Many students have benefited intellectually and personally from this model of scholarship and professionalism.
