First responders are the ones who put their lives on the line for our safety and well-being. At Shorter University (SU), we recognize how invaluable these people are to our lives. Because of that, we are honored to offer a tuition discount for first responders. The information below outlines how we extend a small thank you to those who do a tremendous job each day.
While the reduction doesn’t cover the entire cost of your tuition, our goal is to make life a bit easier. All currently employed first responders, including police, EMT and fire fighters pursuing an online associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s level program are eligible for a 20% tuition discount.
To qualify for the first responder’s discount, students will need to submit an employment verification form each year of attendance at SU. Employment must be verified through the Business Office each year after initial admission in order for students to keep receiving the discount. Because we want to make the verification process as easy as possible, the verification can easily be done if you provide a letter from a Human Resource Office or a current pay stub. However, you may black-out any sensitive information on documents submitted. During your admissions process, your SU enrollment counselor will be there to help you make sure all necessary documentation has been collected.
The responsibility of staying current with the discount is left up to our students. Rest assured, though, discounts will be applied after acceptable documentation has been received from you and reviewed by SU staff. In an effort to make sure we are using the funds as intended, discounts will not be applied retroactively.
