Treasures from the Anagama

Students, alumni and a few visiting artists join Assistant Art Professor Micah Cain (back row, center) for the big reveal from this year’s Anagama kiln firing. Each year Mr. Cain directs a firing of Shorter’s archaic wood-fired kiln, the design for which dates back to biblical times. Students enrolled in the ceramics classes fire work they’ve made during the semester and serve as kiln assistants during the 24 hours a day, four day long process.
