Celebrate Shorter Highlights Student Success

Rome, Ga. – Three students presented original academic research during the annual Celebrate Shorter event on Wednesday, April 18. Students submitted abstracts for consideration by Shorter’s Honors Committee, which hosts the event. Madison Hunt, Cynthia Wanka, and Kara West were selected to make presentations, while additional students were selected to take part in the poster session that followed.

Madison Hunt, a senior English, English Education, and Liberal Arts triple major, gave a presentation titled “It Takes a Village: An Analysis of American Communication, Shattered in Modernity.”

 

Cynthia Wanka, a senior Criminal Justice major, presented her research titled “Overcoming Language and Cultural Barriers in Law Enforcement.”

 

Kara West, a senior Biology and Natural Science double major, presented “The Use of Natural Products, Including Plant Derivatives and Honey Individually and In Combination, to Prevent Growth of Escherichia coli, Listeria Monocytogenes, and Salmonella Typhimurium Associated with Foodborne Illness.”

  • Senior Communication Studies major Erica Ray, who presented “Tactical Marketing Plan: Plane to Sea”
  • Senior Criminal Justice major Jesse Wheeler, who presented “Combating Radicalization”
