Summer 2009

This past summer I lived in the village of Khohlo-ntso high in the mountains of Lesotho. My time there was spent working the numerous fields of corn, riding countless miles on horseback, playing soccer with beautiful children, and sharing meals with the kindest of folks. Through the cold crisp air and soft snow, my friends and I sought to share the love of Jesus with the Basotho people.

We lived within the village and became a part of the community that lived life high in the mountains. Each day as we walked to the well for water, harvested corn for papa, herded sheep and goats, our purpose was to share life with the Basotho and to show what the love taught by Jesus looked like. Building gardens was another method of sharing Jesus with people. We worked, tilled the ground, laid foundations, planted seeds, and watered and weeded. Through those actions we began to share our faith in Jesus and the life found in the Grace of God.

A friend of mine once told me, “God is on the move.” And I certainly believe that God is moving in the mountains of Lesotho. Lives are changing, resurrection is happening. In a place that is filled with death and disease, evil and a lack of love, light shines. It shines bright in the midst of the darkness, a few sparks and glimmers of hope and purpose. Within a culture nearly destroyed by a lack of love, a few faithful are seeking to humbly wash the feet of their neighbor. They are neither afraid nor timid about the life of a man called Jesus the Christ. With their very hands and feet, these brothers and sisters of mine bring life.

So my prayer request is that we would see that God is on the move and seek to love our neighbor. I ask that you pray that we would join the faithful who practice and live a resurrected life. It is certainly possible, even without lights, bands, sound equipment, fog machines, fancy clothes, coffee machines, catchy slogans, and all of the many things we add that distract us from Yahweh God. So if you feel led, join me in this prayer.

God, forgive us for failing to share your love as you have freely shared it with us. Thank you for continuing to love us even while we are covered with sin. Jesus, please, grant us thy Mercy and Grace, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to live simply and love purely. All for Your sake, Amen.
