    CAREER CENTER

In addition to advising on majors and career choices and assessment testing, the Shorter University Career Center helps students apply for their first job or graduate school. Mock interviews, resume polishing, and those important letters of interest and intent, as well as job fair attendance, help many soon-to-be graduates secure the next step in their professional lives. This process is inevitably accompanied by a certain amount of stress, anxiety, and even some identity confusion. The Career Center can also help by providing a space to come and process that stress, explore interests, strengths, goals and navigate through this transitional time.

Many of our graduates go into teaching and are able to find positions for the fall after graduation. Shorter has great success with graduate and professional school admittance ,with many of her science students going to veterinary, medical, dental, and nursing schools. Seminary often follows graduation for Shorter’s religion majors and many of our business majors pursue their MBA degrees.

Shorter’s prestigious music school has followed many students’ careers with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and Broadway shows. Theatre majors often do summer stock after graduation, work in theatre companies, or attend graduate school.

The Career Center works with students to help them get into seminary, social work programs, teaching positions, a variety of graduate schools, sales and management jobs, positions in media and public relations, among many others. Shorter graduates also go into the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps and do mission work.
