GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Our most current six-year graduation rate is 51%.
Required Semester Hours
A candidate for any degree must have earned a minimum of 126 semester hours. Some degrees require hours above the minimum. In order to graduate, a student must have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. All candidates must meet with their faculty advisor or the Registrar to check progress toward completion and file an application for graduation with the Registrar early in the first semester of their senior year. Students are responsible to see that all general and special requirements for their respective degrees have been met. Students should consult with their faculty advisor about specific degree requirements.
Thirty of the last forty-five semester hours prior to graduation must be taken at Shorter College. At least 12 upper division hours (300-400 level) in the major and, if a minor is chosen, at least 6 upper division hours in the minor must be taken in residence.
Junior English Examination
All students must pass the Junior English Examination in order to graduate. Students are required to take the Examination during the fall semester of their junior year. Students who do not pass the examination at that time may retake the examination during the spring semester of their junior year. Students who fail the examination on both attempts will be required to take English 1010 during the fall semester of their senior year and pass the course with a grade of "C" or better. Students who do so will not be required to take the Junior English Examination again.
Financial Requirements
All financial obligations to the College must be cleared before graduation. This includes library fines, all other fines and fees collected by the Business Office, and the graduation fee. No student will be allowed to march with a class or participate in any way in the graduation ceremony until all requirements are met.
