Getting Started in Your Psychology or Sociology Internship

An internship is required for both the B.S. and B.A. in Psychology and the B.S. and B.A. in Sociology. You will enroll in internship just as you would any other class. The course designation is PSY 4050 or SOC 4050; each is a 3 credit hour course. You may choose to participate in a second 3-credit-hour internship (this is not required) which is designated as PSY 4060 or SOC 4060. Find out more about psychology and sociology internships>


PI GAMMA MU International Honor Society in Social Sciences
Georgia Epsilon Chapter

Description: Pi Gamma Mu The purpose of the Pi Gamma Mu honor society is to recognize excellence and scholarly achievement in the study of the social sciences. Our Georgia Epsilon Chapter is open to Shorter University students majoring in criminal justice, economics, history/political science . international studies, psychology, and sociology. To be invited to join, students must attain a grade average of "B" or better and have taken 20 or more semester hours in the social sciences. In addition to honoring the achievements of its members Pi Gamma Mu provides opportunities through service projects, publications, scholarships, and lectureship grants.

Pi Gamma Mu, the oldest honor society in the social sciences, was founded in 1924 and became an international honorary in 1980. Famous members of the society include Antarctic explorer Rear Admiral Richard Byrd, who served as the society's president in 1928, and President Lyndon Baines Johnson, who joined as a student.

Lynne Mooseburg

Lynne M. Moosberg

Lynne Moosberg earned a B.A. in English from Furman University and a M.S.S.W. from the University of Louisville (1977) with a specialization in Mental Health. Prior to coming to Shorter full-time, Ms. Moosberg worked in a variety of clinical settings for over 20 years (inpatient, outpatient, private practice) with a variety of clients (children, adolescents and adults) and taught as an adjunct faculty member here at Shorter as well as at Berry College. Her teaching responsibilities have included Introduction to Psychology, Social Work, Child/Adolescent Development, Adulthood & Aging, History and Systems of Psychology, Counseling Theories, and Counseling Skills.

 
Dr. Jill Borchert

Jill Borchert, Ph.D.

Jill Borchert earned her B.S. in Anthropology from Central Washington University and her M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Western Washington University. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside with a specialization in social-personality psychology. Her research interests are in the area of body image, helping attributions, and small group behavior; she has co-authored articles in Sex Roles and The Journal of Psychology.

Since joining the Shorter faculty in August 2004, Dr. Borchert’s teaching responsibilities have included Statisitics, courses in Descriptive and Experimental Research & Design, Social Psychology, Theories of Personality, and Gender Studies.
