Since its inception in 1873, Shorter University has a long history as a Christian institution which has distinguished itself in the arts and sciences. The school has continued to build upon a reputation of excellence in music, science, business, education, professional education to adults, and more recently, online education.

In the second decade of the twenty-first century, the variety of vistas on the Shorter University horizon is truly staggering. Technology has completely changed the way in which decisions are made. Globalization has merged the local with the international. Dissemination of information has altered the rates at which changes occur. Individuals are linked to one another in a global culture in ways one could not even imagine 50 or even 25 years ago. One thing rings clear. The rich tradition of excellence in education of yesterday must today be linked intentionally to a vision for tomorrow.
