Shorter Nursing

Largest Health Care Profession

Nurses are a crucial part of the American health care system. These professionals are the primary care-givers for patients in hospitals. They are employed in private practices, public health agencies, primary care clinics, outpatient surgical centers, and many more settings. In fact, in the United States, nurses comprise the single largest health care profession, yet the demand for trained nurses continues to grow.

The Georgia Board of Nursing has granted Shorter College developmental approval to begin a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program. The program will train nurses who will join this thriving workforce and help provide high-quality health care to the state’s growing population.

Why a B.S.N. Degree?

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree has many benefits. With a B.S.N., graduates will have the strong science foundation that hospitals look for in their nursing staff. The B.S.N. is generally required for leadership positions within the health care systems and is required for nurses interested in seeking advanced degrees and professional opportunities, including:

• Nurse Anesthetist

• Mid-Wife

• Wound Care Specialist

• Nurse Practitioner

• Nurse Educator

The B.S.N. at Shorter College

With a strong reputation in the sciences and a nearly 100 percent placement rate of students who apply to medical school, Shorter College is the perfect place for you to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The nursing program will go hand-in-hand with our mission as a Christian college to serve and minister to the needs of others. In fact, the curriculum will include a medical missions experience that will have you and fellow nursing students serving needy populations both domestically and abroad.

In addition, Shorter College is located in Rome, Georgia, which has been rated No. 1 in health care out of 193 small cities in the United States. Rome is home to more physicians per capita than any other city in Georgia and serves as a health care center for a regional population of more than a half million people. That translates into countless opportunities for internships and hands-on experience in the medical community.

Begin Now

While the launch of the B.S.N. program at Shorter College is pending final approval from the Georgia Board of Nursing, now is the time to enroll in the prerequisite general education classes. Students completing the core sequence at Shorter College will be the strongest competitors for available spaces to begin the nursing curriculum in Fall 2010.
