| NURSING PROGRAM APPROVAL STATUS | ||
|
In early February 2008, Shorter announced its plans to make application to the Georgia Board of Nursing for approval to offer a nursing program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. By March of 2008, the Georgia Board of Nursing granted Shorter University “developmental approval” for its proposal to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program. “The decision by the Georgia Board of Nursing gives us the authorization to proceed with developing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program,” said Shorter University President Dr. Harold E. Newman. “We will return to the board several times during the two-year developmental process for additional approvals.” The program was granted initial approval by the Georgia Board of Nursing and in March 2010, the first cohort of nursing students were admitted to the baccalaureate nursing program to begin nursing classes in August 2010. Currently, the program is an applicant for accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and will be hosting a site visit in November 2011.
