SPRING BREAK IN PARIS (March 11-19, 2011)
Led by Mrs. Nancy Mount, Dr. Greg Richardson, and Mr. Trey Cunningham, students will explore strategic marketing and advertising practices, international economics, and event and facilities management in a global setting. (3 credits) |

AUSTRIA 2011 – Music History/German
(May 27-June 27, 2011)
Led by Dr. Fred Tarrant and Mr. Ben Harris, students will undertake intensive German language study and explore music history while visiting sites of historical importance in beautiful Vienna and Salzburg, Austria. (12 credits)

EUROPE 2011 – Child Development
(May 9-June 6, 2011)
Led by Dr. Kathi Vosevich and Mrs. Lynne Moosberg, students will examine the depiction of children in psychology, literature, and art while studying in England, the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland. (12 credits) |

EUROPE 2011 – Community & Global Health Practicum (Nursing students only)
(June 2-30, 2011)
Led by Dr. Vanice Roberts and Ms. Pam Dunagan, this summer practicum in Bulgaria and the U.K. combines a healthcare mission experience with a study of international health delivery systems. (12 credits) |

MIDEAST 2011 – Religion/Literature
(May 13-June 7, 2011)
Led by Dr. Alan Hix and Ms. Elizabeth Crews, students will travel to Turkey and Greece to explore the history of the Early Church and sites related to Paul’s missionary journeys, as well as explore Greek, Roman, and Ottoman literature. (12 credits) |
SHORTER ABROAD 2010

AMERICAS PROGRAM
May-June 2010
Led by Dr. Robert Turner, students will explore Ecuador's modern cities and rural villages, volcanoes and Andes Mountains, and the Galapagos Island, focusing on Spanish language, culture and biology. Students will visit a bioresearch station in the Amazon rainforest and witness the biodiversity of wildlife of the Galapagos Islands. No prior Spanish is required. Students may earn 12 hours' credit.

EUROPE PROGRAM
May-June 2010
Led by Dr. Nancy Mount and Dr. Kathi Vosevich, students will explore sites of cultural and historical significance in England and Ireland. Students will attend Shakespeare performances in Stratford and London, travel to Arthur's castle in Tintagel, and visit professional agencies to discover the global challenges in advertising. Students may earn 12 hours' credit.

MIDEAST PROGRAM
May-June 2010
Led by Dr. Alan Hix and Dr. Ben McFry, students will study Greek, Roman, and Ottoman literature, as well as the early Christian church, the missionary journeys of Paul, and the churches of Revelation. This program will visit sites of religious and historic significance throughout Turkey and Greece. Students may earn 12 hours' credit.

March 6-15, 2009
Led by Ms. Nancy Mount and Dr. Robert Wallace, this program will complement the International Marketing course taught in spring 2009. Students will receive instruction at Regent’s College, visit the London financial district, and interact with local business leaders. |

Led by Dr. Robert Turner and Mr. John Kwist, students will explore Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, and coastal villages, focusing on literature and culture. SHORTER ABROAD 2008

Costa Rica: July 7-August 8, 2008
Raven Tommey, a rising senior Spanish major at Shorter, is individually studying abroad at the Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica. She is taking a Spanish class and an elective. Her husband and Shorter's campus ministries intern, Dustin, is joining her on the trip. On weekends, they will travel to different parts of Costa Rica.

Nicaragua: May 25-June 3, 2008
Bonnie McNulty, a 2008 Shorter graduate, spent time in Central America serving as a Baptist Collegiate Ministries summer missionary. During her travels in Nicaragua, she assisted medical mission teams and built relationships with the natives. Last summer, Bonnie was a BCM missionary in Prague, the Czech Republic.

Israel: May 2008
Dr. Alan Hix, chairman of Shorter’s religion and philosophy department and associate professor of religion, traveled to Israel to survey the excavation site at Kursi and lecture to a group from the Jerusalem Institute for Biblical Exploration (JIBE).
Earlier this year, Shorter joined the Kursi Consortium so that Shorter students may study abroad in Israel during the summer of 2009 and participate in excavations at Kursi. Led by Shorter faculty members Dr. Hix and Dr. Jim Scarry, the excavation is under the coordination of JIBE.
Next summer’s Israel program will also include interaction with students at the Mar Elias Educational Institution and the Bethlehem Bible College.

Sarah Iserman, a rising senior early childhood education major and German minor at Shorter, is individually studying abroad at Salzburg College in Salzburg, Austria. She will also be traveling around Germany.

Italy: May 19-28, 2008
The Shorter Chorale, Shorter College’s premiere performing ensemble, will make institutional history while touring Italy in May. Under the direction of Shorter alumna Dr. Martha Shaw, the choral ensemble of 43 Shorter students and five faculty/staff members will perform in Rome, Florence, Verona and Venice. This includes performing in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City; they will sing Mass at the historic basilica, where the Pope often presides.

Europe: May 5-29, 2008
Led by Dr. Robert Darville and Dr. Brian Nedvin, 15 students explore London, England, and the West End theatre scene and then travel to Moscow and the Golden Ring area of Russia. This program focuses on comparisons between British and Russian business, economies, cultures, music and art. Student participants earn 12 hours of class credit in business, music and independent study courses.

Jordan: May 5-14, 2008
Dr. Robert Wallace, Shorter¹s director of international programs and assistant professor of religion, travels to Amman, Jordan, and the surrounding area to learn more about an Arab language school in Amman.
Shorter is a member of the Consortium for Global Education, which sponsors this program. The experience would create an opportunity for Shorter students to study in the Middle East and develop language skills in one of the current "critical need" languages.

Western Canada: March 9-15, 2008
Over spring break, five Shorter students join the Rev. David Roland, BCM campus minister, and Dr. Alan Hix, assistant professor of religion, to build relationships in western Canada. In addition to getting to know many area youth, the team participates in prayer walks and campus activities at a local college.

Israel: March 7-18, 2008
Fifteen Shorter students participate in a 10-day study-abroad trip to Israel led by Dr. Robert Wallace, assistant professor of religion and the college’s director of international programs. Joining him in leading the trip is Dr. Chuck Pearson, assistant professor of physics. The “Travels in Biblical Lands” trip features visits to key locales of historical and biblical significance.
