Teaching and Technology:

Selected for first Office of Information Technology Faculty Development Workshop in 1993 by the University System of Georgia.

Taught political science classes for 10 years via television in the Rome area as well as produced a weekly New Summary program in 1999.

Was selected to serve on a team of political science faculty from across the state to produce a stand-alone American Government WebCT class. This course is still being utilized state-wide for the University System of Georgia’s E-Core program. It was judged to be one of the 16 best WebCT classes nationwide. I received an USG Exemplary Online Course Developer award for this work in 2001.

In 2001 I was selected by the University System to head up a team of three faculty members from across the state to create an Atlanta PBS based class in American Government to be used state-wide. I wrote eight of the 16 lessons for this program.

In the early 1980s lead a grassroots peace movement (with the support of 19 of Rome’s largest churches) advocating a verifiable Nuclear Freeze of US and Soviet weapons systems. Of the 180 city commissions that supported the proclamation, Rome was the first Southern city to do so. I have served as a guest speaker at numerous colleges, public forums, CNN news, and published articles in the Peace Bulletin on topics related to nuclear weapons issues and the Cold War.
