Shorter University is encouraging students, parents and institutional trustees to contact their General Assembly members to express appreciation for TEG, Tuition Education Grant. The General Assembly is currently assessing HOPE and TEG grants for Georgia students. Let your legislators know how very important these grants are to you and thank them for recognizing that the continuation of the programs is vital to funding your higher education. This will only take a few minutes of your time and could make a difference in the continuation of the programs. Please let the financial aid staff know if you have any questions. Click here for the on-line advocacy portal. Additionally, the picture at the Federal level for PELL, SEOG, and LEAP is at risk. The proposed cuts in HR 1 will significantly impact low-income students. The Federal House Appropriations Committee has filed their FY2011 Continuing Resolution and cuts in this include reduction in Pell to $4,015 (maximum award) and the complete elimination of SEOG and LEAP programs. The Senate has formed a bipartisan work group to sort through the FY2011 budget agreements. Senator Chambliss has been appointed to serve on this committee.
