Dr. Cassandra Johnson joined the Shorter University faculty in 2009 after living in Mississippi the majority of her life as Assistant Professor and faculty advisor to the student newspaper. Dr. Johnson has over 10 years experience working in the newspaper industry. She has worked as a general assignment reporter, Lifestyle Editor and Faith & Values Editor. She also served as editor of a Christian magazine in Jackson, MS. She has earned several awards from the Mississippi Press Association and was named the Lincoln County Journalist of the Year by the Brookhaven Humanitarian Society in 2005.

Dr. Johnson completed her dissertation in 2010 on the challenges community newspapers face when considering and pursuing publishing on the Internet. At University of Southern Mississippi, she was named the Graduate Student Teacher of the Year in the Mass Communication Department in 2007. Dr. Johnson graduate from University of Southern Mississippi in 2010.

Her hobbies are photography and surfing/shopping on the Internet. She also enjoys a good Bible study and spending time with her husband, Christopher, her family and close friends.
