I am Cathy P. Vann from Rome, Georgia. I am excited to serve Shorter University in the area of leadership at the graduate level and business management at the undergraduate level.  I am a 1997 graduate of Shorter College. I earned my doctorate of education from Nova Southeastern University in 2006, specializing in organizational leadership. It was there that I continued researching my primary field of interest, distance education and published “Improving Distance Education in a Technical College through Program Evaluation and Assessment”. My qualifications include an Education Specialist Degree in Technology, Management and Administration from Nova Southeastern University, Master of Science Degree in Computer Information Technology with a concentration in Management of Computer Information Technology from Regis University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Shorter College.

Shortly after completing my doctorate degree, I began serving in the capacity of administrator in academic affairs at Coosa Valley Technical College. I had previously served in the business department as instructor, chair, director, and dean. I began my career with Coosa Valley Technical College in 1999 and continued with the college after the merger of Coosa Valley Technical College and Northwestern Technical College to become Georgia Northwestern Technical College in July 2009. I retired as associate vice president of academic affairs as of August 1, 2012 to pursue my passion of serving at Christ-centered colleges and universities.

I serve and teach at Liberty University in the area of business management information technology at the undergraduate level and Shorter University in the area of leadership at the graduate level and business management at the undergraduate level. I began teaching at the graduate level with Crown College, Bryan College and Indiana Wesleyan in the summer of 2012.

My personal and professional goal is to teach at Christ-centered colleges and universities. My passion is distance education. Blending these together I feel I will be answering my call of service.

I have been a member of a Baptist Church since the age of 14. I have been an active member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church for 24 years. I am a born again Christian that believes in tithing and serving in the Church. I am a believer of servant leadership. I am principle-centered.

My academic discipline of technology, management and leadership support my Christian belief of ethics and principles. My servant and principle-centered leadership style are relative to my Christian walk. I believe in walking the talk.

My life experience blends well with my Christian faith, servant attitude and heart. I share this view as appropriate to learning and serving in the classroom. Jesus Christ is our greatest leader and servant still today.
I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to join you as we move forward together in this learning community toward service and success.  I am dedicated to the success and the mission of Shorter University.

In His Service,

Cathy P. Vann
