The Threepenny Opera

Book by Bertolt Brecht; Music and lyrics by Kurt Weill
Sept. 27-30 at 8pm
Oct. 4-6 at 8pm and Oct. 7 at 2pm
Callaway Theatre

The Threepenny Opera takes a savage stab at capitalism and modern morality. The book and lyrics by Bertolt Brecht and music by Kurt Weill were inspired by John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera. Mack the Knife is the suave but murderous leader of an outlaw gang in SoHo, and Polly is the daughter of a rival underworld boss. Corrupt police, love-struck prostitutes, vengeful in-laws, and the upcoming coronation complicate the already rocky romance.
