Tartuffe
By Molière; Translation by Richard Wilbur
Feb. 19-23, 2008 at 8pm and Feb. 24, 2008 at 2pm
Callaway Theatre

Tartuffe is one of Moliere’s funniest and most frequently performed plays. Richard Wilbur translated the text and composed the rhymed couplets for this edition. The play centers around Orgon, a well-to-do man who has been deceived by Tartuffe, a con artist who is posing as a humble priest. Orgon extols the virtues of Tartuffe even as he is swindled out of his fortune, his family, even his home. With nothing left to lose, Orgon discovers the truth about Tartuffe.
