The Summer Arts Institute proudly presents its first ever Jazz Studies Program
Immerse yourself in jazz with six-days of varied presentations for both instrumentalists and vocalists. The combination of workshops, personalized instruction, student performances, faculty concerts, late night jams, and comfortable surroundings creates an inspiring and memorable week.
The Shorter College Jazz Studies Program features an all-star faculty led by multiple Senior Fulbright Professor of Jazz Studies and veteran recording artist Tom Smith (www.thsmith.com). Participants of all ages, backgrounds and skill sets come together for the total jazz education experience. The outstanding faculty to student ratio alongside dedicated encouragement and support set the stage for an inspiring and comprehensive exploration of America’s truest art form - jazz.
THE PROGRAM
Instrumental, vocal, and classroom training are offered for all levels of expertise.
- Musical styles include traditional and contemporary Jazz, Blues, Latin and New Orleans
- Instrumental workshops in piano, guitar, bass, drums, reeds, brass, percussion, and specialty instruments are offered daily
- Our Jazz Studies Program also offers combos, big band, theory/ ear training and jazz history
- Vocal offerings include master classes, soloing, improvisation, ensemble singing, and repertoire
- Perform with students and faculty before a live audience at Open Mic jam sessions
- Attend exceptional nightly faculty concerts
- Enhance your musical network and create important relationships with teachers, colleagues and friends
