Peter DeWitt , professor of music, is college organist, coordinator of music theory and chair of the music department. He has performed harpsichord, piano and organ recitals throughout the Southeastern United States and Europe. One of his students won the MTNA national competition in 2001, and he has had several national finalists in the same competition. |

Matthew Hoch, assistant professor of music, has performed with the Oregon Bach Festival, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Conspirare, the Handel and Haydn Society; his work with the Spoleto Festival Choir can be heard on Gian Carlo Menotti's Saint of Bleecker Street and Cantatas. His professional oratorio experience includes Elijah and Jesus, and works by Bach, Faure, Handel, Haydn and Orff. |

Mary Ann Knight, professor of piano, has completed 42
years of teaching at Shorter. She has had several GMTA state winners at the college, high school, and elementary levels. One of her former students won the Van Cliburn Scholarship two consecutive years at Interlochen Music Camp and was a finalist in the Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA). |

William Knight, retired distinguished professor of piano, was awarded the prestigious Hurlbutt Prize for outstanding performing ability at Converse College. During Mr. Knight's 55-year concert career, he performed throughout the U.S. and Central America. During his 42 years at Shorter College, his students were awarded prizes at state, national, and international piano competitions. |

Linda Lister is assistant professor of voice, coordinator of vocal studies and director of the opera workshop. Her students have excelled at NATS competitions. Her solo credits include performances with the Prague Radio Symphony, the Washington Symphony Orchestra, and the Cambridge Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Her chamber opera How Clear She Shines! had its world premiere in 2002. |

Brian Nedvin , assistant professor of voice, has appeared at the New York City Opera, Washington Opera, Edmonton Opera, Bonn Stadt Oper and the Dortmund Oper. He has sung in four world premieres, the latest being Hans Schaueble's Dorian Gray in which he sang the title role. He was a soloist with the American Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Orchestra of New York. |

David Oliver , associate professor of piano, has made solo, chamber ensemble, and orchestral appearances in cities across the U.S. His accomplishments include being a semi-finalist in the 3rd Adilia Alieva International Piano Competition in 2002 and winning first prize in the 1984 Josef Hofmann International Piano Competition and the 1983 Baylor University Piano Concerto Competition. |

Tom Smith, a talented trombonist and highly respected conductor and scholar, was named band director at Shorter College in April 2007.
A five time senior Fulbright professor of music at the Romanian National University of Music, Smith holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is an active member of the Fulbright Professional Specialist Program, having taught and performed extensively at the world famous University of KwaZulu-Natal Jazz Center in Durban, South Africa. For seven years he was director of instrumental music at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. |

Sherri Weiler, assistant professor of music, is an active professional singer, performing in opera, oratorio and chamber music. She has had winners in state, regional, and district NATS auditions, and her former students have been accepted into
upper level degree programs in universities and conservatories throughout the United States. She is developing a professional opera company in Rome, Georgia. |
