17th Annual Northwest Georgia Choral Festival
Shorter University is excited to host the 17th Annual Northwest Georgia Choral Festival for high school students (grades 9-12) and elementary and middle school boys (grades 5-8) and their directors. Students will spend the day in chorale clinics and rehearsals with festival clinicians and work toward an evening concert in Shorter's Winthrop-King Centre at 6:30 pm.
The public is invited to attend the final concert featuring the festival choirs and the Shorter Chorale. |
Concert
Each participating student will receive two free tickets to the concert, and additional tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door for $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior adults. Tickets can be purchased through the Shorter Box Office by calling 706-233-7288 or email boxoffice@shorter.edu. Concert dress for both choirs will be their school choral performance attire.

Dr. Stefanie Cash
Assistant Professor of Music
Director of Choral Activities and Music Education
Stefanie Cash is an assistant professor at Shorter University where she serves as Director of Choral Activities and Music Education. She is director of the Shorter Chorale, Chorus and Women’s Chorus. She is also responsible for teaching conducting, choral techniques, methods courses and supervising student teachers.
Prior to joining Shorter, Dr. Cash taught both middle and high school in Kentucky and Georgia. Choirs under her direction have performed for KMEA and GMEA in-service conferences as well as the 2008 ACDA Southern Division Convention. Her choirs also received multiple superior ratings at KMEA and GMEA performance evaluations and regional music festivals.
Dr. Cash received her Ph.D. in Music Education with a choral conducting emphasis from Florida State University, M.M. from the University of Kentucky and B.M.E. from Morehead State University. Dr. Cash studied conducting and music education with André Thomas, Jefferson Johnson, Richard Miles, Judy Bowers, Lori Hetzel and Larry Blocher. She currently holds professional membership with the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education and the Georgia Music Educators Association. Dr. Cash resides in Rome, Georgia with her husband Courtney and cat Ryleigh.

5TH THROUGH 8TH GRADE BOYS
Mr. Phillip Shoultz
Conductor, Georgia Young Men's Ensemble
G. Phillip Shoultz, III, an accomplished conductor, educator, vocalist, and speaker, is widely known for his creative rehearsal methodology and ability to inspire singers of all ages and abilities. Phillip is the Director of Music Ministries at the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church in Atlanta where he directs children, youth, and adults in singing, ringing, and instrumental choirs. He is the founder and Artistic Director and Founder of the SONO LAUS! Voices United in Song Choral Festival and is also developing the Druid Hills Project, a unique outreach program that works for social justice through music.
Phillip is actively involved in the community choir scene of Georgia. Since 2000, he has served as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Gwinnett Choral Guild, an adult community chorus. In the fall of 2007, he established the Georgia Young Men’s Ensemble, an ensemble dedicated to the development of singing in adolescent and teenage males.
Phillip is a three-time public school Teacher of the Year, two-time ACDA National Student Conducting Competition Semi-Finalist, and studied music at The University of Georgia and Georgia State University, receiving degrees Magna Cum Laude with High Honors. Additionally, he pursued post-graduate studies through the Choral Music Experience Institute and the Voice Care Network, where he now serves as a Mentoring Program Associate.
Phillip frequently appears as a guest clinician for a variety of all-state and honor choirs, summer camps, and conferences throughout the country. He adjudicates solo and choral festivals and serves as guest voice educator to many schools, churches, and community organizations. Phillip believes every person can experience great joy through singing and he passionately enables people to explore their body, mind, and voice through corporate singing experiences.

Registration Fee & Requirements
$25 per student (for high school or elementary/middle choir participants).
Cost includes: workshop admittance, music, catered lunch, snacks throughout the day, 2 tickets to the evening concert, and an opportunity to rehearse and perform with Shorter ensembles (mixed choir). Dinner is not included in the registration fee. Registration forms must be accompanied by full payment. Forms sent without payment will not be considered for registration until payment arrives. Registration forms are processed in the order they are received until the festival choirs are full. Registration fees are non-refundable.

High School Requirements
Ensembles from each choir must be balanced. Schools may bring two singers per part (two first sopranos, two second sopranos, two first altos, two second altos, two first tenors, two second tenors, two baritones and two basses.) However, if you have completed the 16 balanced singers, you may bring additional singers no matter the voice part.

Children's Choir
Our 13th annual Children's Choir is for boys in grades 5 to 8 and will be under the direction of Mr. Phillip Shoultz of the Georgia Young Men's Ensemble.
Children's Choir Requirements
5th and 6th grade teachers may bring as many unchanged male voices as desired. 7th and 8th grade teachers should begin with a balanced group of up to four tenors and four basses. After the initial eight singers, you may bring additional singers no matter the voice part. (If a boy does not fit these criteria we will happily accommodate a 7th or 8th grader as unchanged or a 5th or 6th grader as tenor or bass.)

Meals
The registration fee will cover the cost of lunch, snacks and drinks on the Shorter campus (chaperoned by Shorter ensemle members) for student participants. Dinner is not included in the registration fee. Chaperone lunches are available for $8 each.
Conductors' Luncheon
Choral directors are invited to a complimentary luncheon at La Scala in downtown Rome from noon until 1:00pm. We offer one complimentary luncheon per group, however, additional tickets are available for purchase at $20 per ticket. (See section on registration form).
