FRIENDS OF MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Each year Friends of Music supports Shorter College music students through our scholarship program. With your assistance, we can make a big impact on these students' college experience and potential musical careers.

Our mission is multi-faceted. We award financial gifts to students who possess talent and show financial need. We assist the Fine Arts department with needed equipment and with programming. Friends of Music offers assistance to students who are unable to afford a much deserved chance to compete against talented students from other colleges across the nation. Shorter's students have consistently proven themselves in these competitions, garnering more first place awards than almost any other college in the country. See Shorter Winners.

In addition to tuition, room and board, and books, music students have numerous added expenses. Applied piano, voice or organ lessons are not included in their tuition, so they pay an additional $230 per instrument or voice each semester. In order to participate in state, regional, and national competitions, students pay an entry fee, as well as travel expenses (sometimes including hotels). In addition, voice students have the added expense of paying for an accompanist and his/her expenses. As you can see, your donations can make a big difference.

Please consider becoming a member of Friends of Music to assist us with these worthwhile efforts on behalf of Shorter's gifted music students. The needs are abundant and worthwhile.
