Shorter Chorus 2007-2008

The Shorter Chorus is a 70-voice mixed ensemble that is open to any talented student at Shorter College who enjoys singing. Students are admitted to and placed in the ensemble by a simple voice-test process. The Chorus performs twice each semester and joins forces with the Shorter Chorale for special events. The highest standards of choral excellence, performance practice, and professionalism are encouraged and expected.

Over the past two years, the Chorus has performed repertoire in nine languages: English, German, French, Italian, Latin (both Italianate and Germanic), Hebrew, Spanish, Russian, and Swedish. Genres explored have included the Italian canzonetta, English oratorios and carols, the Viennese mass, Jewish liturgical music, French operetta, African-American spirituals, American Broadway repertoire, and a variety of contemporary octavos. A highlight of the 2007-2008 season will be a complete performance of Franz Schubert's heavenly Mass No. 2 in G, D167. The concert will feature faculty soloists Dr. Linda Lister, Dr. Brian Nedvin, and Dr. Steven Sheeley.

The Chorus is conducted by Dr. Matthew Hoch and accompanied by Mr. Thomas Williams, a sophomore piano performance major at Shorter College.
