Dr. Sam Baltzer, Professor of Music, received degrees in music education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, North Texas State University, and Indiana University. For four years, he worked as the band director for the Summersville (Missouri) school district. From 1987 to 2001, Dr. Baltzer served as the director of music education at Shorter College. He founded and directs several college and community music ensembles, including the Northwest Georgia Winds, Clocktower Jazz, and the Chamber P.O.T.S.
He has written articles published in several music journals and has led workshops at the state music educators convention. Dr. Baltzer has authored several music appreciation software applications which are on the market and is an active composer and arranger. He also continues to perform both classical music and jazz on trombone and electric bass. His wife, Janet, is the founder and director of Angel Express, Inc., a local children's charity.
