Rianna Chandler

Rianne Chandler, part-time instructor of music, teaches singer’s diction, voice class, and applied voice. She also teaches voice in the Preparatory Department at Shorter. She received a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the University of Louisville where she studied with Daniel Weeks. She earned a Master of Music in vocal performance from Converse College where she studied with Dr. Valerie MacPhail and was a part of the opera production team. Prior to coming to Shorter University, she was a voice faculty member at the Alia Lawson Academy of the Arts at Converse College, and has maintained a private studio since 2007.

Chandler has performed the roles of Papagena and Third Spirit in Die Zauberflöte, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Pitti-Sing in the Mikado, and Jester in Many Moons. Oratorio credits include the Angel and Queen in Elijah, and Alto solos in Creation and Messiah. Other stage credits include Sampson et Dalila, Il trovatore, Turandôt, Les pêcheurs de perles, Lucia di Lammermoor, and La bohème with Kentucky Opera. During her portrayal of Cherubino, she collaborated with Polish artists and performed in productions both in Louisville, Kentucky, and made her international debut in Katowiz, Poland. As a result of that experience, Chandler was featured in the full-length documentary “Figaro: Living in the Moment of a Character.”

Chandler is a member of Pi Lambda Kappa and Delta Omicron, and has been recognized regionally at NATS competitions. She is also level one and two certified as a Singing Voice Specialist, which focuses on the rehabilitation of injured singing voices.
