Dr. Rebecca Ann Salter, a light lyric coloratura soprano, is pleased to join the voice faculty at Shorter University. She recently completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts in vocal performance at the University of Oklahoma. Her Master of Music in vocal performance and Bachelor of Music in vocal performance were earned at Oklahoma City University, where she has also taught as an Instructor of Voice for the past seven years. Prior to teaching at OCU, Dr. Salter served as the Head Graduate Assistant of Voice at the University of Oklahoma and maintained a private voice studio.

Dr. Salter is a successful teacher of many styles of singing, and her students have been thriving in a variety of areas. Former students are singing or have sung on Broadway; National and International Broadway tours; many Regional Theatres, including Arizona Broadway Theatre, Carousel Dinner Theatre, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Music Theatre of Wichita, North Shore Music Theatre, and Paper Mill Playhouse; many theme parks, including Busch Gardens, Disneyworld, and Disney Tokyo; and in Young Artist Programs including Opera in the Ozarks, Key West Young Artist Program, and the Frost School of Music Salzburg Festival. Many of Dr. Salter’s students have been winners and finalists at OK-NATS and TEXOMA-NATS auditions. Dr. Salter’s students have also been making waves in the commercial music industry. Recently, one of Dr. Salter’s students was selected by Ingrid Michaelson as the winner of the “Everybody Video Contest,” and will perform live with Michaelson in an upcoming concert.

While teaching is Dr. Salter’s primary passion, she also maintains an active performing schedule. Favorite roles include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Cunegonde in Candide,Baby Doe in The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Ellen in Lakmé. She has performed with Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, and was an inaugural member of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Pops Chorale. Dr. Salter has received numerous awards, including the Benton-Schmidt Scholarship and Metropolitan Opera National Council District First Alternate (the year that Kelli O’Hara won), and was a finalist in the 2010 TEXOMA-NATS Artist Awards Competition.

Dr. Salter is certified from The Institute for Contemporary Commercial Music in Vocal Pedagogy (The LoVetri Method - Level I); and is a member of NATS, Phi Kappa Phi, the National Scholars Honor Society, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
