Mr. Daniel Huey

Assistant Professor of Music

Daniel Huey is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at Shorter University, where he teaches music theory and ear training. In the past, he has held academic appointments at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the University of Iowa.  His research areas include microtonal and contemporary music.  He has presented at conferences at the regional and international level on the music of Ben Johnston and Arvo Pärt.

Mr. Huey is currently ABD in Music Theory at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he is working on a dissertation on the Fifth String Quartet by Ben Johnston. He received his Master of Music in Theory from the University of Iowa, and his Bachelor of Music from the University of Illinois.

His other areas of musical interest are in organ, especially the music of Olivier Messiaen, J.S. Bach, Max Reger, and Marcel Dupré.
