ACADEMY OF ARISTEAUS

The Honors Program of Shorter College provides an enriched curriculum for those students in a position to go beyond regular undergraduate requirements. Students who complete the program go more deeply into their chosen field(s) than other students, and do intensive work in critical thinking and interdisciplinary studies as well.

Students are invited to participate based upon evidence of superior work from their high school records, and/or their SAT or ACT test scores. Students who are selected for the Academy of Aristeaus are contacted prior to summer orientation and registration sessions. Students who are not selected but feel an interest in the program should contact the Director.

BENEFITS

Being a part of the Honors Program brings with it numerous advantages. Participants are designated as "honors graduates" on their college transcripts, a designation that conveys to graduate or professional schools that the student in question has undergone a more rigorous course of studies than other students.

In addition, participating students are recognized at the annual Honors Day Convocation, as well as at Graduation. What is more, the thesis that each honors student writes becomes a part of the Livingston Library at Shorter College.

Shorter's Honors Program is named for the Greek figure Aristeaus. A son of Apollo, Aristeaus comes down to us as one whose curiosity was boundless. As a part of the Honors Program, you as a student figuratively become a son or a daughter of Aristeaus, a scholar whose desire to learn is limitless.
