    ALPHA CHI NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Logo gold bevelAlpha Chi is a prestigious national honor society open to the top 10% of Juniors and Seniors academically. Membership is by invitation only.

Since 1922, Alpha Chi has been promoting academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students—and honoring those who achieve such distinction. As a national honor society, Alpha Chi provides many opportunities for leadership, as well as undergraduate and graduate scholarships. In fact, Alpha Chi typically awards $60,000 a year in 26 scholarships and fellowships to individual members. The society also publishes the Recorder, a scholarly journal for student publications, and offers conventions for students to gain valuable experience in presenting their work, as well as win cash prizes.

Alpha Chi is a great achievement—and a key differentiator for honorees in their future endeavors. Faculty sponsor, Dr. Kathi Vosevich, emphasizes, “The honor society not only promotes academic excellence, but also exemplary character. These students are truly among the best of the best.” In 2011, Shorter University was also recognized as a Star Chapter, one of only 37 Alpha Chi schools nationally, to achieve such a distinction.

In 2012, Alpha Chi members will have the opportunity to attend the regional convention in Baltimore by presenting on various topics and competing for awards. At the 2011 national convention in San Diego, Cheryl Culp, Senior General Studies Major, won the top Brown’s Graduation Supplies Prize in Communication for her presentation, “A Dual Process Analysis of St. Jude’s Advertising.” She was one of only 28 winners from across the nation.
