    ROAD TOUR - RIVERDALE CAMPUS

I can’t believe that the Shorter Road Tour is finally here! After months and months of planning, we are finally on the road. (Which makes me happy!!) These past few days have been slightly surreal to me. Being part of the transition to University status makes me feel so important, a part of something so much bigger than I am! I fell in love with Shorter the first day I stepped onto the traditional campus in Rome. That was ten years ago this August, and my love for her has grown to new depths as each day passes. I am truly excited to see where the future leads us as a University!

Today’s event at the Riverdale Campus was definitely a huge success!! We gave out t-shirts, cups, pens, key chains and bumper stickers to over 300 people. We were able to get all of their contact information for future events too. Being an alum from the traditional campus, I thought it was great to see so many adults furthering their education. I am so proud of them.

Dr. and Mrs. Newman are going to join us on the road the rest of this weekend. They have decided against riding in the University Van. A smart idea on their part, as Chip is a HORRIBLE driver!!! I’ve already lost count on the number of times I yelled, “CHIP STAY IN OUR LANE”. This month is going to be a wonderful bonding experience for the three of us. I am excited!!

Big shout out to those familiar faces that came to Riverdale - Dr. Newman, Dr. Shull, Trey Lyons and Britt & Aimee Madden!!! Dr. E- Thanks for all your help! See you on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Till next time!

Rach

Riverdale Campus—Woosh! What a whirlwind of people! ….and food. The Varsity catered and filled all of our bellies…with loads of tasty lard and such. Yum! We gave out over 300 t-shirts and cups full of Shorter University goodies. We were a big hit and the best part of all was the surprised look on everyone’s faces when they realized they were going to get a new University t-shirt! I kind of felt like Santa Claus!

Set-up was a bit chaotic, simply because Chip left Rachel and I to go make a “Wal-mart run” ….which lasted 2 hours. Chip got lost in Fayetteville and got back just in time for the start of the event. Typical Chip—he immediately admitted to making himself scarce just to avoid doing work. What are we going to do with him?? I think I’ll secretly take the keys from him after our next event.

Overall, it was a successful event. Everyone left happy and isn’t that what matters most? Speaking of happy, we stopped at QT on the way back to Rome and I got an incredibly delish white cherry slushy. If you haven’t gone down the road of the white slushy, you should. Real talk.

Over and out,

Mal

Greetings from I-75! I don’t know how well I’ll be able to drive and talk but we’ll see how this goes (actually this is Mal and Chip is dictating to me what he wants me to write):

First road trip event seemed to be a success. Dr. Ericcson’s choice of student speakers for the program was great. Pastor Phillip Daniels, Mary Daniels and Danita Jones all represented Shorter Professional Studies students well. Tons of chili dogs and onion rings from the Varsity were devoured. Especially by me. Which is making this trip home a bit awkward for Mal and Rachel.

The first event ran smoothly, at least from a public perspective. My search for a karaoke sound system led me all the way to Fayetteville. Unfortunately the only color system they had was pink. The girls are happy about that. Scratch that, Rachel is not. She hates pink.

I let Rachel and Mallory do all of the work and I hope they know that will be expected from me throughout this trip. However I was the official photographer until Aimee showed up and stole my thunder. Check my pics out (and Aimee’s) on the website: www.shorterroadtour.com and on our official facebook group page: Shorter University Alumni.

It was great to see several of our traditional alums make it to Riverdale—Vickie Henry and Cheryl Hollis. It was also good to catch up with one of my classmates Trey Lyons from class of ’01…who come to find out, has actually taught in our professional studies program for the past 4 years.

All in all---first off campus event = goodness. Hope to see you in Columbus or Birmingham.

Seacrest, out.

Chip
