Today started off early and with a great breakfast at our hotel. One thing I'm really looking forward to this month is all the amazing breakfast options on the road. If only my house had the same number of options, then I'd be in business. Our event today was hosted by Joe & Suzanne Hopkins and Charles Tippett. Joe & Suzanne were kind enough to open their home up for us. Their hospitality was wonderful! The event, while the turnout was small was still great! Everyone that came actually already knew each other, so there was a lot of catching up among old friends. Can't beat that!

Shout outs to Kathy G who catered our lunch and did a fabulous job! Also to Ann Marie, Chip's wife who joined us and kept us in line...for the most part.

Monday we will be at the North Atlanta campus. Join us if you can!!

Till next time,

Rach

Joe and Suzanne Hopkins were great hosts at the Birmingham event. Their home was lovely and it was all-in-all a wonderful day. Kathy G and Company catered the event and did a spectacular job—just as I had expected. I’m glad to be out of the car for at least a day so I can gear up for next week.

Lessons learned this weekend: when Chip drives, make sure to bring an ipod as he listens to either no music at all or talk radio. Also, maybe a snuggie and winter socks wouldn’t be a bad idea and some safety goggles to shield my poor eyes from the 50 degree maximum air conditioning blasting in my face. I’m still trying to defrost from the ride home!

Over and out,

Mal

Our trip to Birmingham taught me a good lesson.  Don’t take the word of the guy behind the desk at the hotel over Google.  As we checked in for the night I asked the hotel desk clerk how long it would take to get from Opelika to Birmingham and he said an hour and a half tops.  Well, I should have ignored that and gone with the 2¼ that Google maps estimated.  Luckily we left early enough that we arrived at the Hopkins’ home with enough time to get fully setup before any of the guests arrived.

The Hopkins’ home was very impressive and I can’t thank them enough for opening up their home to us and other Shorter alumni in the area.  We had an amazing spread of food including shrimp and grits, stuffed mushrooms, and many other treats.  We were fortunate to have Mrs. Joyce Jennings in attendance who along with her late husband were teachers in the music dept at Shorter College, and in fact, happened to have taught all of the alumni in attendance.

Birmingham = great event.

And that’s the way it was.

Chip
