| ROAD TOUR - ATHENS, GA | ||
|
See the photos There was a great turnout in Athens and I met some cool people! At my table were Jeff and Teri Hanna (’89 I think) and Laurie Bunn (’96) and her husband and daughter. Teri reminisced about her classes with Dr. Darvill and exclaimed he was her most favorite professor while at Shorter! And she had him for many many classes being an accounting major. Her husband went to Georgia Tech (which was exciting for me being that I LOVE the yellow jackets!...and we were in ‘dawg’ country) so needless to say there was plenty to chat about! Laurie and Teri shared stories about their children and gave each other advice on things and even exchanged contact information at the end of dinner. (yay!) Dinner was fabulous (we dined at East West Bistro downtown) and they even customized our menus to say “Welcome Shorter University”…and that, my friends, is quality! We have only 5 more events left…sad! Over and out, Mal On the road again. It was nice having a few days back in Rome, but I enjoy meeting with new folks and catching up with old friends. The first folks to arrive in Athens were family friends from way back. Palmer ‘77 and Sha Rehberg. Palmer was the Minister of Education at 5 th Avenue Baptist Church in Rome, GA back in the 80’s when I was in the children’s program. I haven’t seen then since my wedding back in November of 2008 so it was great to catch up. Palmer is the Minister of Education and Administration at First Baptist Church Winterville which was about 5 minutes away from our restaurant. Also at my table were Vickie Curry ‘80 and her husband. Vickie told us about how she secretly kept a cat in her dorm room that would get out and wonder the halls. Staci Betts ’01 was also at my table and it was great to catch up with her as we were at Shorter together. I also had a chance to talk with Teri Bradshaw Hanna ’88 and her husband Jeff. Terri was an accounting major back when Dub Darville first came to Shorter and there were 4 accounting majors at the College. Laurie Bunn ‘96 and her husband also joined us and it was great to connect through alumni we both knew. Pamela Stephens Collum ‘02 and her husband and Amanda Wynn Acres ’02 and her brother joined us as well. Pamela also attended one of our Atlanta campus events so it was great to have a repeat customer. Unfortunately I didn’t get to catchup with them as much as I would have liked but I am really glad they came. Fish don't fry in the kitchen; beans don't burn on the grill. Chip
