Ocober 31 - Shorter College hosted the Chamber of Commerce's Business After Hours event on Thursday, Oct. 25. Community members and local business leaders interacted with representatives of the college prior to the Hawks football game against Bethel College.
In addition to chamber leadership sharing updates with its members, Shorter's president, Dr. Harold E. Newman, and Shorter's student government president, Carrie Fitzsimmons, addressed the attendees and thanked them for their involvement with the college.

October 23 - More than 500 young voices echoed throughout the Shorter College campus on Monday, Oct. 22, for the 12th annual Northwest Georgia Choral Festival.
The day-long clinic for high school students (grades 10-12) and elementary school students (grades 4-6) allowed the participants to rehearse with festival clinicians alongside Shorter College students. The day concluded with an evening concert with more than 1,500 parents, teachers and students in attendance.
The high school choir was directed by Dr. Martha Shaw, director of choral activities at Shorter College. The children's choir was directed by Craig Hurley, director of Spivey Hall Young Artists.

October 18 - The Shorter College Chorus will perform their fall semester concert on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m. in Brookes Chapel.
Directed by Dr. Matthew Hoch, the Shorter Chorus is a large mixed ensemble that is open to any talented student at Shorter College who enjoys singing.
Students are admitted to and placed in the ensemble by a simple voice-test process.

October 10 - Allen Jackson, professor of youth education and director of the Youth Ministry Institute at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, was the final speaker during Shorter's Christian Focus Week held Oct. 1-4.
In addition to worship services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the week included a prayer breakfast, campus devotionals and a movie discussion.
Jay Leslie, director of worship and student ministries at Christ Community Church in Columbus, Ga., led the worship music during the week, and Rohan Peart, senior pastor of Josiah Vision Ministries in Marietta, Ga., also spoke during the chapel services.

October 3 - Justin Webb and Carmen Prather were crowned as Shorter College¹s homecoming king and queen during halftime of the Hawks football game on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Webb is a senior history and political science secondary education major from Rome, Ga. He is the chaplain and sergeant-at-arms for his fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. He is also a member of Shorter¹s Baptist Collegiate Ministries and serves as an Epsilon Sigma sweetheart. He is the son of Michael and Cynthia Webb.
Prather is a senior music education and vocal performance major from Dallas, Ga. She is a member of the Shorter Chorale, St. Jude¹s executive board, opera theatre and the Epsilon Sigma sorority. She also serves on Shorter¹s orientation staff and works as a campus resident director. She is the daughter of Daniel and Karen Brown and Jeff and Idella Prather.
Senior class representatives for the 2007-2008 homecoming court included Laura Bowen, Carrie Fitzsimmons, Bonnie McNulty, Erin Miller, Zach Morrison, Josh Payne, Joshua Pipes, Garrett Prather, Sam Renick, Cameron Rogers, Zackry Smith and Kate Talley.
Underclassmen court participants included junior representatives Britt Hester and Kianka Dupree, sophomore representatives Jacob Edfelt and Ashley Wiseman, and freshman representatives Grant Walker and Jennifer Holcombe.
