Wednesday, March 28 -- On Sunday, April 1, Shorter alumna Jamie Barton will compete in the finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, a program designed to discover promising young opera singers. Jamie and the other finalists will be featured live from the Met in the competition that will be aired on many NPR stations nationwide. A Rome native, Jamie earned her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Shorter in 2004; she is currently in graduate school at Indiana University. Wednesday, March 21 - Valentino Achak Deng, a refugee from Sudan’s civil war, spoke to students and faculty on Monday, March 19, in Shorter College’s Brookes Chapel.
Wednesday, March 14 - Twenty-five Shorter College students traveled with Campus Minister David Roland to New Orleans during Spring Break to volunteer in rebuilding areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
