Dr. Carmen Acevedo Butcher signing her new book

Wednesday, April 25 -- The crowd that gathered at Barnes and Noble on Saturday, April 21, for Dr. Carmen Acevedo Butcher's book-signing was proclaimed "the happiest group we've ever had at a book-signing" by a bookstore employee. More than 70 students, faculty, staff and community members attended the event, where Dr. Butcher -- scholar in residence, associate professor of English, and the Carnegie Foundation's Georgia Professor of the Year -- signed copies of her latest book, "Hildegard of Bingen: A Spiritual Reader."

The book contains selections from songs, theological texts, liturgical music and letters by the 12th-century German mystic Hildegard of Bingen, which Dr. Butcher translated from Ancient Latin into Modern English.
