Students running during an ecology experiment

November 18 - Students in Dr. Christopher Brown’s Biology I Lab recently spent time in the Front Circle, taking advantage of the chance to learn about ecology while enjoying sunny skies. Students were taking part in an experiment designed to teach them about interspecific and intraspecific competition. Interspecific competition occurs between two or more different species whereas intraspecific competition takes place between members of the same species. The experiment used techniques like foraging, competition and predation to give students a hands-on learning experience.

A.J. Cooley

November 11 - With the eye-catching numbers he has amassed over his career, it's safe to say that Shorter College senior fullback A.J. Cooley is arguably the best player to ever put on a pair of shoulder pads and helmet for the Hawks.

Last week, there was no question as to who was the nation's top offensive player.

Cooley, the Hawks' all-time leading rusher and holder of every conceivable rushing record at Shorter, has been named the NAIA Football National Offensive Player of the Week as announced Monday afternoon by the NAIA offices in Kansas City, Mo.

November 4 - On Sunday, November 1, Shorter College inducted 50 new members into Alpha Chi, a national honor society for undergraduate juniors and seniors in all academic disciplines. The induction ceremony, held inside Brookes Chapel, was well attended by friends and family members of the inductees.

During the ceremony, students were presented with their Alpha Chi cords and a certificate of achievement by faculty sponsor, Dr. Kathi Vosevich; sponsoring dean, Dr. Sabrena Parton; and assistant sponsor, Dr. Robert Turner. Students Bradley Harris, Trey Smagur, and EJ Laird performed the Alpha Chi song. Afterwards, a reception was held in the Austin Moses Room.
