Crew on a crane removing the water tank section by section.

July 23 - Crews began work this week to remove the city’s water tower from the Shorter College campus. The tower, which is owned by the city, is located behind the Fitton Student Union. Originally, it provided water to the Shorter campus as well as Horseleg Creek Road. Approximately eight years ago, the city installed a new water tower on Mt. Alto to service customers on Horseleg. Within the past year, the city rerouted water to the campus from another source and stopped using the tower.

A crew from Good Earth Environmental of Atlanta is removing the 165,000-gallon tower, which is 90 feet tall from ground level.

The official activities were held on July 3 and 4, and culminated with DVD slide show of changes at Shorter as well as photo updates from the alumni of the class of 1971. The group was also treated to a Fourth of July firework display over the St. Louis Arch.
