August 26 - The Class of 2013 already made history as the largest incoming freshman class in Shorter’s history. And on Saturday, Aug. 22, the students earned another distinction as 240 of the 350 new students volunteered at 23 locations around Rome during the first annual H3: Hawks Helping Humanity.

This fall, Shorter has yet another record enrollment as the total number of traditional students tops 1,200 for the first time.

Pictured above is the group that sang at Riverside Retirement Home during the H3 event. Led by senior Justin Maxey, the group of approximately 30 freshmen sang hymns, classical pieces, contemporary Christian songs and gospel classics via solos, small ensembles and group hymn presentations. The majority of the students taking part plan to be music or musical theatre majors at Shorter. Residents enthusiastically invited the group to come back and perform again.

Smiling students on a scavenger hunt

August 20 - This smiling group of Shorter College freshmen took a quick time out to pose for a photo during a Soar into Shorter scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt was just one of the many activities planned during freshmen orientation week by the Office of Student Activities.

The hunt, designed to help students find their way around campus, had a hi-tech twist, as students were given their clues via text messaging. The first day of class is Monday, Aug. 24.

A crowd of more than 50 participated in the groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning.

Shorter group at Yellowstone National Park

Aug. 5 - Shorter athletes return to campus today for physicals and will soon begin fall practice. Among their number are 28 athletes and eight coaches who recently traveled to the Two Moose Camp Gainey Ranch in Glen, Montana, where they were the guests of businessman Harvey Gainey.

Mr. Gainey, who spoke at Shorter’s Spring Commencement exercises in May, owns the ranch-based Christian ministry targeted toward athletes at the high school and college levels. The Shorter group is pictured in nearby Yellowstone National Park along with Shorter Trustee Chairman Dr. Nelson Price, his wife, Trudy, and Mr. Gainey. Also visiting the ranch during this week were Shorter College President Dr. Harold Newman and his wife, Brenda.
