February 27 - Congratulations to Brishelle Jacobs, who was crowned the
2008 Miss Shorter College on Friday, Feb. 22.

Brishelle is a senior voice performance major and business minor. On campus, she is involved in Phi Mu, the Shorter Chorale, Up 'Til Dawn St. Jude's fund-raising group, the music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon, and Shorter opera theatre.
Contestants participate in four phases of the Miss Shorter College Scholarship Pageant: presentation and achievement in a private interview, talent and artistic expression, on-stage interview and evening wear competition.

February 20 - Take me out to the ballgame!
Shorter College associate professor of English Dr. Carmen Butcher and her son, John, threw out the first pitch to Shorter's baseball game on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Hawks beat the University of the Cumberlands Patriots in that game 5-4.
The weekend also included the home opener for the Lady Hawks softball team who swept their double-header against the Tennessee Wesleyan Lady Bulldogs 9-1 and 11-0.

February 13 - Internationally known soprano Indra Thomas, a 1993 graduate of Shorter College, visited campus on Thursday, Feb. 7, to lead a master class for current students.
Ms. Thomas provided constructive feedback and professional suggestions to five voice performance majors who sang various selections for Ms. Thomas and faculty and students of the college's School of the Arts.
She was in Rome to perform with the Rome Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Feb. 9.
Ms. Thomas made her professional debut in the Verdi "Requiem" at Carnegie Hall with the New York Choral Society and currently tours internationally. She gained critical acclaim for her performance in the title role in Verdi's "Aida" with the Atlanta Opera.

February 6 - Shorter's sororities and fraternities cheered on the Hawks basketball team on Thursday, Jan. 31, during Greek Night at the college's Winthrop-King Centre. The Hawks defeated conference foe Faulkner University 73-65.
During halftime, students reported on each organization’s community service efforts to support various charities and non-profit organizations. Additionally, Zeta Tau Alpha received the spirit award for the evening.
