The Class of 1971 in Nashville

June 30 - The Shorter Class of 1971 recently gathered in Nashville, Tenn.  for a weekend of reminiscing, fellowship and fun. The weekend’s exciting events included a personal tour of the Scarritt-Bennett Center, a three-hour twilight tour of Nashville and a guided tour of the Parthenon.

The group took time out of their busy schedule and posed for a quick snapshot in the Bicentennial State Mall Park with the Tennessee state capitol in the background (shown above). Special guests attending the weekend reunion included Shorter University head football coach Phil Jones and his wife, Janie.

The Class of 1971 makes a habit of getting together between reunion years and traveling to different places. Last year, the group spent several days in St. Louis celebrating class members’ birthdays and watching a special July 4 firework display over the famous St. Louis Arch.

Coosa Valley Signs truck installing sign

May 5 - Workers from Coosa Valley Signs were hard at work at Shorter’s Rome campus this morning installing new LED signage. Located between the main entrance and Horseleg Creek Road, the signs will share — in full color -- news of campus events with those traveling in either direction on Shorter Avenue. “A tremendous number of cars pass by the campus on a daily basis, and we are excited to have a new tool to keep them informed about Shorter events,” said Dawn Tolbert, vice president for public relations.

The Coosa Valley Signs trucks may be a familiar sight around Shorter in coming days as the crew works to install new Shorter University signage. We’re keeping it all under wraps until the unveiling on June 1, which is now less than a month away.
