March 3 - The Shorter College SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) visited Alto Park Elementary School last week to conduct an educational unit on monopolies and budgets. The SIFE team donated four Monopoly board games to each of the 5th grade classrooms at Alto Park as part of the visit. Later this month, the SIFE team will return to Alto Park to conduct a financial literacy unit for the first graders, providing them with a store simulation activity complete with candy and snacks for sale.

February 24 - Friday, February 19th marked the first annual invitation only Black History Month Scholars Luncheon where African American students with a GPA of 3.0 and above were honored. Shorter administration, faculty and staff gathered in the Austin Moses Room to celebrate the students' success.

February 18 - After several hours of snowfall, this is how the front of Sheffield-Thompson looked on Friday, February 12. A great day of chilly outdoor fun for those students who remained on campus after the school's early closing at the start of the winter holiday.

February 11 - Saturday, February 27, 2010 will mark the first annual “Striking Out Breast Cancer” game, when Shorter Hawk’s Baseball, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and Softball players team up with the Breast Center at Floyd Medical in a not-for-profit fundraiser to support breast cancer awareness and breast cancer victims.
The Shorter Hawks will take on Auburn-Montgomery on this day for a 12:00pm double header at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex. Come watch the Hawks and show your support as they take the field on this memorable day with all donations and proceeds going towards further breast cancer awareness and treatment. “Striking Out Breast Cancer” T-shirts and pink Shorter Baseball Hats will be on sale during the game or can be ordered by contacting Coach Matt Larry at mlarry@shorter.edu.

February 4 - President Harold E. Newman, left, presents a resolution officially naming Shorter’s business programs the Robert H. Ledbetter College of Business. Longtime Rome businessman Robert H. Ledbetter Sr. is funding $1.5 million that will allow Shorter to locate its School of Business in the MidTown Crossing Shopping Center in the facility that formerly housed the Goody’s department store.
A longtime friend of Shorter College, Mr. Ledbetter is chairman and CEO of R.H. Ledbetter Properties, Inc. He is a supporter of the college’s athletic program and has served as both a trustee and a member of the Board of Visitors. Shorter’s national award-winning baseball complex also bears his name.
When renovation work is complete, the Ledbetter College of Business will occupy 30,250 square feet of space in the shopping center. The facility will be home to undergraduate programs in business, business programs in Professional Studies, and Rome-based support staff for Professional Studies. Current plans are to move into the facility before the beginning of the fall 2010 semester.

January 27 - On Friday, January 29th, the Shorter Chorale will be performing for the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah. Each year, music educators from the state attend the annual music conference to attend workshops, hear performances of outstanding school, college and university and community ensembles, and visit with their fellow colleagues. It is an honor to be chosen to perform, and the Chorale is delighted to be included in this year’s roster.
There will be a reception for Shorter music alumni at Vic’s on the River in Savannah on Thursday, January 28 th from 5-7 pm. Alumni wishing to attend should RSVP to Chip Mitchell at cmitchell@shorter.edu.

January 13 - Freshmen students Brenna Moore, Andrea Cooper and Emily Branch share a conversation on the way to the Shorter Post Office. The campus was busy with activity this week as students returned to classes on Monday, Jan. 11. The start of the new year also brought with it a record spring semester enrollment of traditional students at Shorter.
